Превод и тумачење фразе 'једне жене муж' у 1Тим 3, 2а представља изазов за преводиоце и егзегете. У приложеном раду дискутују се различите могућности тумачења. Долази се до закључка да главна тема није полигамија или број бракова већ неопходност брачног односа и брачна верност кандидатата за епископску службу.

The translation and interpretation of the phrase 'the husband of one wife' in 1 Timothy 3, 2a continue to pose a challenge to translators and exegetes. This paper attempts a concise discussion of the various interpretational options and argues that the main issue at the stake is neither polygamy nor remarriage, but rather the necessity of the marital relationship and marital fidelity of those aspiring to the office of bishop.
