Religion and National/Ethnic Identity in the Western Balkans: Serbian Orthodox Context
Abstract
In this chapter, we try to analyse the phenomenon of ethno-religious nationalism as the most important issue belonging to the broader frame of relations between ethnic/national and religious identities in the Western Balkans (former Yugoslavia). Our focus is narrow and we move only within the Serbian orthodox context, although we find that my assumptions and conclusions are well applicable in all other cases and contexts. This analysis has three different aspects: historical, theological, and the one pertaining to the domain of political theory and practice. © 2023 selection and editorial matter, Stipe Odak and Zoran Grozdanov; individual chapters, the contributors.
