Свети Герман Патријарх Цариградски као бранилац икона

Abstract

Период иконоборства донео је, поред искушења, и велики број православних богослова који су у ово кризно доба дали велики допринос очувању чистоте хришћанске вере - вере утемељене, између осталог, у древном црквеном предању. Један од таквих бораца и исповедника вере је, свакако, Св. Герман Цариградски патријарх, о коме ће у овој студији бити речи. У додатку су: Посланица цариградског патријарха Германа епископу Томи Клавдиопољском и Посланица патријарха Германа епископу Константину Наколијском.

The epoch of the iconoclassts gave a large number of Orthodox theologians who, in this crisis period, made a great contribution to the preservation of the purity of the Christian faith - a faith based, inter alia, in the ancient church tradition. One of these soldiers and confessors of faith is of course St. German Patriarch of Constantinople. On the basis of his preserved works and testimonies of his contemporaries, it is possible to reconstruct his theological thought about the icons. Considered are the most important of his works related to icons: Letter to Thomas of Claudiopolis, Letter to John Sinaites, Letter to Constantine of Nakoleia and his Sermon on the Cross and the Holy Icons. His contemporaries who defended Icons: Pope Gregory II and Venerable John of Damascus, lived outside the Eastern Roman Empire and were not directly threatened by the imperial authority that persecuted icons and iconodulees, unlike St. Germanus who was in the capital city and who was willing to knowingly sacrifice for the true faith. Because of everything that he did, especially in the defense of icons, St. Germanus was added among the confessors of Orthodoxy.
