Abstract

Der vorliegende Beitrag diskutiert die Formulierung „Mann einer Frau“ aus 1Tim 3,2. Nach einer Übersicht über bisherige Auslegungsvorschläge wird folgende Interpretation vorgeschlagen und begründet: Jeder Kandidat für das Bischofsamt muss unbedingt verheiratet sein (Heiratspflicht) und in einer stabilen Ehe leben (eheliche Treue). Die These wird mit 1) einem grammatikalischen, 2) einem formal-logischem, 3) einem text-kontextuellen und 4) einem text-pragmatischen Argument begründet.

The article addresses the controversial interpretation of the phrase "the husband of one wife" (1Tim 3,2). It offers a brief survey of the various interpretational options and argues that the main issue at stake in 1Tim 3,2 is the absolute necessity for the aspiring bishop to be a married person. The pronominal ("of one") is to be understood as a reference to the bishop's martial fidelity. This exegetical solution is based on the four arguments: 1) grammatical argument, 2) formal-logical argument, 3) text-contextual argument, and 4) text-pragmatic argument.
