AB  - In this paper we have looked at the administrative documents collected in the book The Statues and Regulations of the Belgrade Metropolitanate: 1857‒1876, from the point of view of vocabulary. In particular, the use of foreign words and their linguistic and stylistic expression has been researched. Mutual linguistic influences and permiation are the result of contacts between linguistic and cultural communities and are the reflection of their changing relationships. Research has shown that the lexical system of the Serbian language is prone to change, flexible, open, willing to receive foreign influences, that gaps can be filled from the right resources. Data on lexical changes are important for diachronic semantic research on the development of the lexical fund of the Serbian language.

AB  - The specific traits of the methodology of theology as well as the peculiari-ties of its scientific knowledge inevitably influence the extralinguistic and intralinguistic features of theological scientific works, which is especially reflected in the lexical layer. This paper deals with the analysis of the vocabulary of popular scientific theological works of eminent authors in the Serbian language in relation to academic papers as basic representatives of the scientific style of theology. The results obtained by statistical analysis of the vocabulary of the works of the two mentioned substyles enabled their contrastive analysis. In addition, atypical elements were pointed out – the expressive and emotional markers and stylistic figures of popular science theological works. © 2021, Faculty of Philology Banja Luka. AB  - This study indicates that each branch of science, including theology, has a particular terminology in accordance with the object and method of its research, and it is the most distinctive characteristic of the language of science. In this work, the authors limited themselves to the study of nomenclatures of Slavonic origin in the theological academic papers. Numerous Slovenian neologisms represent the essential characteristic, richness and a special layer of lexis of theological works. They permeate the language of scientific papers at the level of generally used lexis, linking it in this way with the works of religious style, and making it special and very different from the style of the works of other fields of science. In Serbian language they are phonologically and morphologically adapted or sometimes copied in its original form, while in the English language they are adapted mainly by the means of a kind of “adapted transliteration”, or the combination of methods of transcription and transliteration.

AB  - U ovome radu predstavljaju se osnovni zaključci analize osobenosti jezika naučnog stila teološkog izraza srpskog i engleskog jezika, ukazuje se na njegove distinkcije, specifičnost i univerzalnost u odnosu na naučni stil uopšte, а podvlači se i razlika između jezičkih elemenata kojima se sluzi srpski, odnosno engleski jezik u nastojanju da verbalizuje naučno saznanje iz oblasti teologije. Na sličan način predstavljaju se i žanrovi naučnog stila u teologiji. Cilj ovoga predstavljanja је da se ukaže na sličnosti i razlike sa stilom i žanrovima drugih oblasti nauke. Analiza tekstova izvršena је komparativnim pristupom i sinhronijskom i dijahronijskom metodom. Stil koji је karakterističan za naučna dela iz oblasti teologije u velikoj meri se razlikuje od naučnog stila drugih oblasti nauke. On pokazuje i mnoge dodirne tačke i sličnosti sa stilom drugih oblasti nauke, ali ima i niz diferencijalnih crta. Osnovna ekstralingvistička obeležja teološkog izraza koja su identična sa obeležjima naučnog stila drugih disciplina jesu preciznost, apstraktnost, logičnost i objektivnost. Medutim, specifična metodologija teologije kao i osobenosti njenog naučnog poznanja neminovno utiču i na ekstralingvistička i intralingvistička obelezja teoloskih naučnih radova. Neki žanrovi se menjaju, razvijaju, nastaju ili nestaju tokom vremena.
AB  - This paper presents the main conclusions of the analysis concerning the characteristics of the language of the scientific style of theological expression of Serbian and English languages. It points out the distinctions, specificity and universality in relation to the scientific style in general, and it also underlines the differences between the linguistic elements used in Serbian or English languages in verbalizing scientific knowledge in the field of theology.
The style of scientific works in the field of theology differs from the scientific style of other fields of science. There are many common characteristics and similarities with the style of other fields of science, but there аге also some differences. The basic extralinguistic characteristics of theological expression identical to the features of scientific style of other disciplines are precision, abstraction, logic and objectivity. However, а specific methodology of theology and the features of its scientific knowledge inevitably affect the extralinguistic and intralinguistic characteristics of theological research papers. Some genres аге changing, evolving, arising or disappearing in the course of time.

AB  - У раду који следи изложићемо неке ортографско-графичке карактеристике композиције научних дела православне теологије, првенствено строгог подстила, на енглеском и српском језику. Разматраће се проблематика одступањаортографске норме у сакралним текстовима од ортографске норме енглеског и српског језика у појединим случајевима употребе великог слова при писању одређених заједничких именица, заменица, чинова светости, титула свештених лица, еклисионима, иконима, и сл. Обратићемо пажњу и на посебна ортографско-графичка средства чија је намена да додатно организују и/или информационо обогате научни текст.
AB  - The essay deals with the issues of deviation of the orthographic norm in sacred writings from the standard orthographic norm of Serbian and English languages in some cases of the use of capital letters. Special attention has also been paid to the analysis of specific orthographic and graphic elements which are used to additionally organize or provide more information to a scientific text. Theological scientific works tolerate or even do not "notice" the diversity and inconsistency. Međutim, odluka o upotrebi velikog slova koja odstupa od opštejezičke pravopisne norme je i stvar ličnog autorovog opredeljenja i izraza.
AB  - The essay deals with the issues of the orthographic deviation in sacred writings from the standard orthographic norm in Serbian and English languages considering the use of uppercase letters in common nouns, pronouns, religious honorifics, names of icons (iconyms) and names of churches (ecclesionyms), etc. The aim of this analysis is to propose the orthographic norm for theological scientific works by determining the cases of this deviation. The comparative method has been applied in analyzing of the texts belonging to the strictly scientific substyle of the religious style.
There is a specific use of uppercase letter writing in theological texts which does not comply fully with the orthographic norm. There is certain inconsistency in applying uppercase letters in the theological scientific works in both Serbian and English languages. It concerns the use of uppercase letters in writing certain common nouns, pronouns (not only personal, but also possessive, demonstrative and relative pronouns relating to Christ, Mother of God and the Holy Trinity), theonyms, attributes in the names of saints, church ranks, ecclesionyms, iconyms, names of administrative church units, names of the members of different religions.
The cases of the deviation from the orthographic norm, as well as of the inconsistency in the use of uppercase letters in writing of certain words occur more frequently in Serbian than in English language. The use of uppercase letters is conditional, i.e. it is influenced by the author's perspective towards the problem he deals with and the connotative dimension. The uppercase letter marking is facultative and even in the strictly scientific works of theology it can be applied as means of expressing emotion and personal attitude.

Поред проширивања досадашњих теоријских представа и генерализација у области функционалне стилистике, овим радом отворили смо питања и из области теолингвистике. Стил научних дела из области теологије има неке заједничке карактеристике са стилом радова осталих области науке, али има и своје специфичне особине, што првенствено проистиче из особеног карактера богословског познања и специфичне методологије теологије. Предмет истраживања овог рада јесу интра- и екстралингвистичке карактеристике стила научних радова у области  теологије на енглеском и на српском језику, као и жанрови у којима се реализују. Посебна пажња поклања се лексичким, морфолошким и синтаксичким карактеристикама теолошких научних радова, али и правилима композиционог устројства теолошког текста и проблемима ортографије где се такође запажају извесна одступања од правописне норме, али и недоследности у томе. Извршена је детаљна анализа репрезентативног корпуса радова на енглеском и српском језику а у складу са њиховом припадношћу одговарајућим подстиловима научног стила – строго научном, научно-уџбеничком и научно-популарном. Захваљујући постојању превода одређених радова било је могуће извршити и компарирање добијених резултата. У том циљу примењена је методологија контрастивне анализе, са смером проучавања од енглеског ка српском језику, а у оквиру контрастивног метода примењене су и пратеће статистичке технике.

This area of stylistics has not been examined in both languages till these days either from monolingual or contrastive aspects. Except for providing better view and knowledge in functional stylistics, this paper sets some questions in the field of theolinguistics. The style of the scientific works in theology shares some common characteristics with the style of the works from other scientific areas, but it also has some distinctive features which are the result of the particular character of theological knowledge and its methodology. The subject of this study are some intra- and extralinguistic characteristics of the style of scientific works in theology in both English and Serbian languages, as well as the genres in which they are realized. However, special attention is paid to their lexical, morphological and syntactical characteristics, but also to the rules of the composition of theological texts and orthography problems where certain exceptions to the orthographic norm have been observed as well as inconsistencies concerning them. The detailed analysis of the representative corpus of works in theology in both English and Serbian languages has been carried out in connection to their belonging to particular substyles of the scientific style, that is, strictly scientific substyle, scientific textbooks substyle, and popular science substyle. Owing to the existence of the translations of some corpus works it was possible to compare the given results for which aim the methodology of contrastive analysis has been applied directed from English language towards Serbian language. Furthermore, certain conclusions have also been drawn based on the results of statistics techniques applied on the given corpus.

Овим радом посебно ћемо скренути пажњу на поменуту карактеристику и њену диференцираност или модифицираност у теолошким научним радовима на енглеском и српском језику.
AB  - This paper deals with one of the most prominent characteristics of the style of scientific works in general, i.e. a unique type of communication between one serious scientific work and its 'predecessors' - intertextuality. Particular attention is paid to this characteristic and its distinctness in theological scientific works in English and Serbian languages. The most prominent types of intertextulaity are mentioned, like citation or a quotation from an authoritative source, indirect speech or paraphrasing another's words, and simple referring just to a particular author, the title of and the year, without stating the particular text itself or retelling it in the new scientific work. All these are being illustrated by particular examples taken from theological scientific works in English and Serbian languages.

AB  - It is the fact that cultural elements and systems usually do not match between two cultures which use different languages. There are certain terms for the cultural elements in one language which have no corresponding translation equivalent in some other language. It is seen as one of the main problems in the field of translation. This article deals with the problem of translation processes which are used to produce the best possible solution in English language for those lexemes in Serbian which are specific only for the Orthodox Christianity.

AB  - This article deals with one of the newer issues in the domain of the functional stylistics, i.e. with the new member in this group - religious style, church style or sacral functionalstylistic complex, as different linguists tend to name it. It has been recently suggested to introduce and analyze it, since religion has also been one of the forms of social consciousness. Following some of the recent studies we have listed some of the characteristics of the language that has been used in the church and in scientific theological writings. The religious style is considered a closed system existing in both written and oral language code, and as such it has some distinguishable language characteristics considering syntax, grammar lexis, orthography, etc. Bearing in mind the lexical characteristics of the religious style Bugaeva mentioned, we have analyzed certain theological and texts dealing with the Orthodox Church in both English and Serbian languages trying to point out at some specific lexical means that each language uses. Comparing them, where it was possible, we attempted to underline the similarities and differences in their use in order to 'transfer as close as possible' their stylistic characteristics in the process of their translation. We have tried to stress the importance of further and more detailed analysis of the characteristic of Serbian language in this part of its social role. It is necessary not only in theoretical but it would also have its practical impact, since in the process of translation of scientific theological and church texts not only their context but also its stylistics value should be properly transferred.
